10 Things to Help Get Over the Boredom

10 Things to Help Get Over the Boredom

Are you bored with your role as a homemaker? Do you find it challenging to stay entertained each day? Whether every day tasks aren’t appealing to do or you’ve completed them, boredom happens from time to time. In my opinion, an occasional boring day is normal.

But if you’re anything like me, then you loathe being bored. So in this post, I’m going to give you 10 things you can do to combat boredom. Let me be clear, doing nothing or having nothing to do isn’t the same as being bored.

These things aren’t in any particular order, but you can choose the one(s) that spark a light in you.

1. Do a home project

Is there a project you’ve been putting off because of the lack of time or energy? Well, this is the perfect time to get that done or at least started. There’s always something to do in the home. Maybe you can repurpose a table, chair, or shelf. Which room needs to be remodeled and can be done rather quickly? A home project on days like this could be the thing you need to spark creativity and inspiration for other areas in your life.

2. Cook a fancy meal (or new meal)

I bet you have a million recipes pinned on Pinterest each saved with the intentions of trying one day. Well, today is that day. Pull up the recipe, jot down a quick shopping list and get cooking. You don’t even have to go to the store yourself. Simply put your order in Instacart (<- - you can click here to use my referral link) and prep the items you have on hand while you wait for your shopper to deliver your groceries. This is the perfect time to try new recipes. Cooking an exquisite meal will be time well worth it.

3. Clean something that doesn’t normally get cleaned

I know housework isn’t really on the “feel like” list, however, we all have a spot or spots in the house that we all dread cleaning so we don’t clean it often. Which room is it for you? I loathe the laundry room and cleaning out closets. This would be a great time to get to work in that area.

4. Start a new hobby

Maybe you’ll take up sewing as a hobby or jewelry making, whatever the case starting a hobby won’t just give you something to do, it’ll also help you have fun. Recently, I got in the hobby of brewing my own espresso. It’s been an interesting journey of learning how to get the perfect pull more consistently. Yes…coffee can be a hobby! What hobby are you thinking of starting (or restarting)?

5. Plan a get together

Sometimes you just need company over to help you kick the boredom out the door. Dress cute, get some finger foods, and invite your favorite person or people over for a few hours to enjoy some good laughs and conversations. Perfect way to pass time and connect with friends.

6. Start a blog

Seriously, blogging can be fun and will definitely give you something to do. Even if you don’t consider yourself a writer, you could enjoy it. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.  Don’t start a blog to make money, just as a hobby. Write when you want to or feel inspired.

7. Start a podcast

If you got a lot to say and really don’t want to write, having a podcast can be something you’ll have fun with. I’m sure you have a personality that will connect with someone out there. Think of something that will make someone laugh, think, and/or improve their life. You could talk about your own experiences and how you’ve grown, a skill you’ve acquired over the years, or whatever sparks your interest. We all have something that con help someone else…so consider doing a podcast.

8. Learn a new skill

If you’re bored, then that means you have some time to learn something new. It could be learning how to sew, crotchet, code a website, gardening, preserving food, etc. It could be anything you’re curious about but don’t know how to do. This is the perfect time to learn how to be efficient enough to use it to add to your homemaking role.

9.Go for a walk

Sometimes a simple walk can crush the boredom bug. There’s no substitute for feeling the wind on your face, hearing the birds chirp, and smelling nature. Feeling the sun on your skin can also be therapeutic. I, personally, find so much peace when I do take walks around my neighborhood. I don’t do it often, but when I do….it’s glorious. You may feel the same way.

10. Play a video game

You probably won’t get this based on my blog, but I actually love playing my Nintendo Switch. I haven’t had much time to do so lately, but I do enjoy it. If you have a gaming system in the house, consider playing it for a few minutes. Even if you don’t consider yourself a gamer, you may just discover that you like it. Gaming, depending on the game you’re playing, offers your brain a chance decompress while develop or strengthen a skillset you already have:

  • Problem-solving
  • Quick thinking
  • Flexibility
  • And more

So there you have it. 10 things to do to decrease boredom as a homemaker. It’s my hope that this post has helped you find a few new ways or remind you of things you knew to defeat the boredom bug that plagues us all from time to time.

Do you have a different way you defeat boredom that’s not mentioned here? Let me know in the comments. I would love to learn new ways as well.

Until next time, I’ll see you at home!

Celeste
